Prince Edward Island Roadtrek International Rally

9-9-13_CA_PEI_RT Rally_Reg 3_Marco Polo_edited-3  Linda and Elmer hosted the September 2013 International Rally at Prince Edward Island, Canada. They kept us very busy, well fed and well entertained over the four days of the rally. The weather was a little damp and very chilly for us Hawaiian wimps but none the less we had a good time seeing old friends and making new ones.

One day was spend at Avonlea Village. This village is representative of the stories from Anne of Green Gables, which was written on Prince Edward Island. The high light of this day trip was the local music show in the Shanty. Had lunch at the Moo Moo CafĂ©, visited the General Store, the church and the Chocolate Store. 09-09-2013_CA_PEI_RT Rally_Avolea_edited-1

On the way back to the campground drove along the shore. It is an island community made up of fishing villages and sea side resorts along the shore and small farms inland. Most of the resorts and resort type activities had closed the weekend before.

Back at the campground we had meetings, campaign speeches and on Thursday the election for the new President. Sherry Targun won with 71% of the vote. 9-11-13_CA_PE!_Presidents_edited-409-2013_CA_PEI_RT Rally_Left-1_edited-2

Fayette, Michigan

This was just an over night stop for us. The campground was pretty. It was pouring when we got there so we quickly got settled. The next morning  we discovered   a walkway through the forest to the lake. Very pretty rocky beach.
As we were leaving there was a sign for a museum. At one time this was a waterfront community. Much of the village is restored as it was. So glad we just happened upon it.

Kleinke Beach Campground, Upper Peninsula Michigan

2013-08-12_UP Michigan County park

Stopped at this city park campground because it was right on the water. We were set up and outside in our chairs when we notice this storm rolling in very fast. We barely had time to put the chairs in before it arrived at our doorstep. Thunder and lighting was our entertainment instead of the anticipated sunset.

The sun did come up in the morning, shinning like a huge crystal ball. Two little boys were out there in their pajamas fishing for their breakfast. So glad we stopped here for the night.

Elkhart, WI Road America Raceway

We stumbled upon this very famous race track that was having major races that weekend. Carl was in his glory. We have been going to races and watching them on TV for many years. To say that the weekend was exciting would be an understatement. The sights, sounds and crowds can’t be truly experienced watching these events on TV.

The camphosts Jill and Mike live a few hours away and having been doing this for quite a few years. They were so nice to use. They took us all over the race grounds. We are planning to go back is a few weeks when they will be racing Vintage cars.

Another reason we are so happy with our Roadtrek. It affords us a wonderful gypsy life full of surprising around every turn.

Corporate Roadtrek Rally in Branson, MO

Roadtreks at Branson, MO Rally
There are 250 rigs here at the ABC campground in Branson. The rally started on Monday. The weather was a little scary the first couple of days and very wet. For the most part it has not dampened our sprits or spoiled any of the planned activities.IMG_2495 The golfers, golfed

and the shoppers, shopped between the rain drops yesterday.
Today we are all off to enjoy the Dolly Parton dinner show.
The sun is shinning today. Yay.

The Old Pavilion RV Park, Keaton Beach, Florida

Keaton Beach 4-11-13 JPEG

This was a Passport America “find” a couple of years ago. It is off the beaten path. It is a little fishing village and not much else. There is one store that sells a little more than ice cream and chips. Their main purpose is fuel for fishing boats and launching the private boats into the inter coastal waters.

Another National Park Experience

2013-04-20_Vicksburg, MIssissippi_National Park copy

We stopped here in Vicksburg only because there was a Casino RV Park on our way to Rogers, Arkansas. It didn’t cross our memories that there is wonderful historical stories here, much less a National Park. This NP was like no other we have experienced so far.

The other parks all had rare and unusual natural beauty. This one was situated in very pretty rolling hills and fields but that wasn’t why it was a NP.  It was declared a NP because the Battle of  Vicksburg was one of the deciding battles that led to the end of the Civil War.

The park is like an outdoor museum. There are over 1300 Statues, Monuments and Shrines commemorating those that fought and died from both sides.

There is a 16 mile road that meanders through the country side. At important points you call in with your cell and get a personal narrative of the significance of this area.

It took us several hours to visit the museum and drive through the park. It was a beautiful and we were so glad we stumbled upon this beautiful place.

The Cairo Museum and the ship itself was one of our favorites.

Homosassa Springs State Park, Florida

Homossasa Springs Wildlife Park Lt copyHomossasa Springs Wildlife Park Rght copy copy

We spent a delightful day at this State Park. There is a small museum and film high lighting the history of the area in the Visitors Center. Once you purchase your ticket you get to the park by Tram or by Boat. The Boat ride was slow and beautiful. The volunteer gave us a very comprehensive and informative explanation of the area.

The park is gorgeous. Each area is made to look as natural as possible. The park was established to rehabilitate animals that are native to Florida that have been injured. The main purpose is to released them back to the wild. If that is not possible they stay at the park.  All animals are native to Florida except the hippopotamus. The governor made him an honorary citizen of the state so he could continue living in the preserve.

Love, love, love this place. Can’t wait to go back.
