We weren't prepared for Cosme that threatened the Islands in July because we had no kitchen - it was all torn up. It turned away from the Islands but we had tons of rain and huge surf for several weeks.
So when Flossie appeared we decided we needed to be ready for this one. She was the biggest hurricane and came the closest since 1992 when Iniki hit. We found out the escape route and where the shelter was if we had to evacuate. We bought bottle water and can goods. The Reef boarded up the glass panels by the pool and took down the pool side umbrellas. School was closed. All water activity was shut down. Businesses closed by noon. We were all ready.
And nothing happened - not even rain.
So now we know what to do and where to go. Let's just say it was good practice.
We left Kona on May 4th, 2010. After being on the road for 2 years we finally returned to Kona on April 15, 2012. We are getting ready to leave again on July 5th. We maintain this blog to keep our friends and family abreast of our comings and goings. Life is a journey and we are taking that saying to the limits. While we are traveling on the mainland we are renting our lovely condo through VRBO (Vacation Rentals By Owners). http://www.vrbo.com/268332.Feel free to email us.
