Homosassa Springs State Park, Florida

Homossasa Springs Wildlife Park Lt copyHomossasa Springs Wildlife Park Rght copy copy

We spent a delightful day at this State Park. There is a small museum and film high lighting the history of the area in the Visitors Center. Once you purchase your ticket you get to the park by Tram or by Boat. The Boat ride was slow and beautiful. The volunteer gave us a very comprehensive and informative explanation of the area.

The park is gorgeous. Each area is made to look as natural as possible. The park was established to rehabilitate animals that are native to Florida that have been injured. The main purpose is to released them back to the wild. If that is not possible they stay at the park.  All animals are native to Florida except the hippopotamus. The governor made him an honorary citizen of the state so he could continue living in the preserve.

Love, love, love this place. Can’t wait to go back.
